America 250 Committee

In 2024, we’ve included information in our newsletter on Charles Goodman (Patriot of Charlotte Alexander), Isaac Hale (Patriot of Nita Taylor), and Yancey Lipscomb (Patriot of Frances Weathersby). As we continue to prepare for America’s 250th Birthday, here are some slides that were presented at a meeting several years ago by Kathy Balkman.  Since these were shown during the “Covid Years”, many of you did not see them.

Arkansas Women Veterans Symposium

Members of the Little Rock-Centennial Chapter attended the Arkansas Women Veterans Symposium on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Clinton Presidential Center.  One of the first people we met was CW5 (Retired) Phyllis Wilson who is President of the Military Women’s Memorial in Washington, DC.  Phyllis also happens to be a member of DAR in Virginia.

Other speakers at the event (shown L to R in photo) included Ms. Kathleen Pate, Education Specialist, Clinton Presidential Library and Museum; Dr. Cherisse Jones-Branch, Dean of the Graduate School, Arkansas State University; colonel (Retired) Nate Todd; Board of Trustees, University of Arkansas; and previously mentioned Phyllis Wilson.

During a break, members signed up (using their cell phones) to research obituaries and submit HERstory.  What a great way to honor women veterans.

Naturalization Ceremony

On February 21, 2024, several Little Rock-Centennial Chapter Members attended the Naturalization Ceremony held at the William J. Clinton Presidential Center. The Honorable James M. Moody Jr., United States District Judge presided. Former President Bill Clinton offered remarks to the new citizens.

Salute to Veterans Week

Little Rock-Centennial Chapter members hosted Bingo Night at Towbin VA Healthcare Center in North Little Rock. This event held on February 15, 2024, was part of the National Salute to Veteran Patients Week. In addition to helping with Bingo and passing out snacks, our members also gave out Fidget Pillows which had been donated.  It was hard to tell who had more fun – our members for the veterans.

December 2023

Once again, we had a great turn-out for our December meeting.  It was a wonderful mixture of members and guests.  Our own Ellen Cook did an outstanding job presenting on the 250th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.   She also gave prizes for those who answered Boston Tea Party trivia questions.
