2019 National Day of Service

For the 2019 DAR National Day Of Service, the Little-Rock Centennial Chapter prepared and wrapped 145 Veteran Shoe Boxes for the Veterans Shoe Box Project. Our chapter coordinates with the Voluntary Services Office at Central Arkansas VA Healthcare System on this special project. The boxes, along with many others that will be collected throughout the area, will be distributed by our chapter to veterans this December. We are honored to participate in this great project again this year, and look forward to many more years of participating.

Mt. Holly Cemetery Memorial Day Project

Mount Holly Cemetery in Little Rock is a historic landmark, and it was an honor for some members of the Little Rock Centennial Chapter to participate in placing flags all through the cemetery Memorial Day weekend.  The flags will remain until after July 4th to honor all men and women veterans buried at Mount Holly.  Mount Holly has 500 veterans from all American wars from the Revolutionary War to the first Iraqi war.

May Meeting

Little Rock Centennial Chapter had a wonderful May Luncheon and awards presentation for our monthly meeting.  It was such an honor to have Arkansas State Regent Junelle Mongno as our guest speaker today. Awards were given to Micheal Dobbs, Chief of VA Voluntary Services, and PCI Company for their work on the Veterans Shoe Box Project. Awards were also given to our chapter members celebrating the number of years they have been a member of DAR. It was wonderful to also have members of the Gilbert Marshall DAR Chapter and Major Jacob Gray DAR Chapter attend today.

April Meeting

We had a great meeting this month at Ferncliff in Little Rock.  The program was about the Ferncliff Nature School with guest speakers Rachel Parker, Director and Lead Teacher, and Jenny Higgins, Lead Teacher.
Their mission is to provide quality child centered education while strengthening the child’s connection with the natural world through daily immersion and discovery in nature. The program provides a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum with an emphasis on a child’s connection with nature. The program follows the forest kindergarten model and is “child lead” with teachers acting as facilitators for learning. They spend 75% of day immersed in the natural environment that surrounds the school, rain or shine.
