Sequoyah Research Center

On December 18, 2024, the Reporter General, NSDAR, on behalf of the National Society presented a $20,000 donation to the Sequoyah Research Center at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). This donation is to assist the Center in updating its collections, specifically focusing on acquiring books written by Native American authors. Several ASDAR officers and state chairs as well as officers from the Little Rock-Centennial Chapter attended the presentation. Staff from the Sequoyah Research Center were also present.

The top priority for the donation is to purchase books written by Native American authors from tribally owned and operated presses, such as the Chickasaw Press in the Chickasaw Nation in  Ada, Oklahoma. The second and third priorities involve acquiring books from publishers that have a history of publishing works by Native American authors sharing their Native history and culture, as well as books from booksellers who maintain  Native American authors.

The Sequoyah National Research Center is recognized as one of the world’s leading repositories of Native American materials. What a wonderful gift NSDAR has given to the Sequoyah National Research Center!

In addition to helping with Bingo and passing out snacks, our members also gave out Fidget Pillows which had been donated.  It was hard to tell who had more fun – our members for the veterans.

December 2023

Once again, we had a great turn-out for our December meeting.  It was a wonderful mixture of members and guests.  One of our own did an outstanding job presenting on the 250th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.   She also gave prizes for those who answered Boston Tea Party trivia questions.
